June 2009 Update: Here's a couple of newer photos of Bandit, he was adopted July 25, 2008 (if I remember right!) He's doing great and he's really starting to come around to people. He will actually walk up to them, sniff, and kiss-he's still not real sure about them reaching out to pet, but he will definitely let strangers scratch him once in a while when it's on his terms. MUCH better than he used to be!!
He has a blog, too-if you go to www.daisymaesmom.wordpress.com and click "Bandit" on the side menu, you can read his stories. Some are pretty funny :) There are pictures of him on that site, too.
Hi Everyone! Just another update on Bandit-He's doing great! Last time I weighed him he was almost 70 pounds. The vet says that he looks good and is very healthy. He passed his basic obedience class We took it twice because it was good for socialization and he was still pretty scared after the first session, but he did pass it both times. we're going to move up to intermediate and advanced where we will work on long leash commands, off leash, and hand signals. He's a very bright little fellow! The trainer doesn't let everyone into the next level up, you know!! The trainer says that with his personality, he may excel at search and rescue work and other scent training and retrieval. He LOOOVES other dogs-he made very good friends with a Cairn Terrier at class that didn't like anyone else but Bandit :) Unfortunately, his fear of people is VERY deep seated. He's scared around everyone other than me (with me he's a little love bug and he cuddles non-stop), even people he is fairly familiar with by now. He still goes to work with me every day and is just letting my co-worker start to pet him now. He did actually walk up to the other woman that owns that Cairn Terrier and let her pet him, though-it seems that when he sees other people be nice to other dogs he's a little more at ease. He has NEVER threatened to bite anyone at all-even though he is horrified when people come up to him. He's such a good, sweet boy! He'd never hurt a fly (well, ok he catches flies in his mouth, but he'd never hurt a person or another dog unless, perhaps, they were after me-he watches over his Mommy). Bandit is a very goofy boy, too. When he is cold at night, he will force his body under the pillow I'm using without waking me up. I have no idea how he accomplishes this, but twice I've awakened in the morning looking at half of Bandit coming out from under my pillow. Another thing he does is that he thinks about everything he's going to do. You can see the little wheels turning. Once, he stared into my pantry while I was in the kitchen and was deep in thought for a minute or two. I thought to myself, "don't forget to close that door before you leave." Of course, this was the one time in history that I left my pantry door open when I left the house. I returned home an hour later to find that Bandit took out a 5 pound bag of flour and a second 2 pound bag of flour (only the flour, mind you) and spread it very evenly over my entire sectional couch. When I got home, he jumped up on the couch and laid down, looking at me like, "look what I did! aren't you proud??" It was ONLY on the couch, it was very evenly spread ONLY on the seat sections, and there was no other hint of flour anywhere. When I'm TRYING to be clean with flour I get it everywhere-I have NO clue how he pulled this off with such grace. After an hour of cleaning, you can't tell it ever happened, though. The pantry door is always shut at my house now, needless to say..... His brother, Jake, my lab, had another cancerous mast cell tumor removed a few weeks ago, and he is very concerned with Jake's well being. Jake doesn't play as much with him the past few weeks, but hopefully that will be over with soon. Bandit definitely needs a playmate and he loves Jake to bits, even though Jake doesn't always act too happy to be playing all the time. We're keeping our fingers crossed for Jake to get better soon. Jakey loves his brother, too, though. Whenever Jake is laying in the other room and Bandit does something bad, I'll say "BANDIT" loudly, and you can hear the tell-tale "thump-thump-thump" of the lab tail hitting the floor in the other room, just laughing at his buddy. Here's a few pictures of Bandit-you can see how hard he works at the office every day :) Thanks to you all-have a very Merry Christmas!! Kris |

Hi Everyone! Bandit is having a great time here at his new home :) He and his big brother, Jake, are getting along great and they have LOTS of play time together! Bandit is still very shy when it comes to meeting new people and he hides or runs away if he can, but slowly we're working on getting him used to people. Here he is at work, learning to do some filing and learning that people aren't mean!!- |
