Update after the weekend. Chewy is doing very well. His incision still itches, but he has an appointment on wednesday with our regular vet to get the staples removed. One end of the incision has gotten slightly puffy, so we did take him into the vet on saturday. They looked at it and said it was likely a normal reaction to the knot at the end of the stitches. We have been doing a lot of leash training and he is improving. He is also getting very good at sit and down, considering it's only been one weekend, we think he's doing excellent. We've left him out free in the house every time we are gone, yesterday was his first full day and he did fine. He does get really excited when we get home thou, which is pretty funny. Chewy and Rexy have been getting along fairly well. Rexy is getting very comfortable around him, but still isn't a big fan of the cone. Both dogs sleep just outside our bedroom door at night. It's funny to open the door in the morning and see where they are, today the were about 2 feet apart, sound asleep. The only trouble we are having is feeding. He has growled at rexy a couple times when they are eating so we still keep him on a leash. I think it's a combination of the cone restricting his sight and where the food is located. We keep it in our laundry room which is long and skinny, so when chewy gets in there it's hard for him to turn around and he feels sort of cornered. We'll work on that more once his cone can be removed and once he realizes that he gets food every day and that rexy has her own food bowl. A quick update this morning on Chewy. Danen is staying home with him all day while I work for a couple hours this morning. Chewy did exceptionally well in the car ride home. He was curious but quiet and calm. When we got him home we played with him and let him explore the house for a couple hours, I think it was after midnight before we finally went to bed. He slept last night right next to Rexy in the hallway outside our bedroom. I never even heard a sound from him all night. This morning we gave him his medicine and 2.5 cups of food. He ate it all, but not extremely fast. So we'll see how he feels and feed him the other 2.5 tonight or this afternoon. Everything is going great and we will try to update you when we have pictures of Chewy and Rexy playing in the backyard. Thanks! Eric and Danen |
