December 2009 Update:
Our little dog is really starting to fit in well. We can’t believe she has only been here for two weeks. She is much calmer and seems to enjoy her adopted family. We take four long walks everyday with the dogs and our little cat who follows along jumping in and out of the grass in the field and woods. Heidi and Lexi trot nose to nose on the trail with tails wagging, they are starting to enjoy each others company. Last night we sat on the terrace with Heidi and Lexi for over an hour. Heidi’s favorite thing is to be outside.
She is learning the word house (which means it is time to head home) crate ( it is a safety issues for Heidi to go to her crate as soon as we come inside because our old girl takes time to walk through the door, also it gives all of the dogs a few minutes to calm down after having fun on the trails) and “give me five.”
During the last thunderstorm we let her stay in our ground floor bathroom with the lights out a quiet cave like environment until the storm passed. Storms seem to be the only thing that really scares her for a long period.
Sorry I still haven’t taken any pictures, with the weather being so rainy I am really behind on my gardens and this weekend I spent time pulling weeds. Heidi is tied near me because she has to get used to the idea, that if you are allowed to go unleashed you must stay within eyesight of the people.
You did a great job with Heidi, it has made it easier for her to adjust to her new home. She is a very sweet and loyal friend.
I hope you have a good week.
