no accidents! She did wake me up at 3:30 this morning to go out and had
a very loose stool... Did well today, although she really seems to not
want to stay outside (oops, I guess she had an accident as I type this,
right after Amanda brought her in from a trip outside). Even when
taking both girls on a walk, Penny attempts to herd us all back towards
the house as much as possible. As soon as she does her business outside
(and sometimes even before), she turns and heads back for the door and
wants back in. I don't know if she is just anxious from the move or is
concerned she is going to be left outside or abandoned or what. Yesterday we took our first trip down the path to the lake. Penny didn't really know what to make of the lake. She initially walked in on her own and walked back out pretty quickly. Lucky was in and out over and over again because I had bought them each their own water Kong Wubbas and Lucky was having fun with both. Penny walked in after me and got in up to about her chest but then decided she'd had enough of the lake and walked back out. She and I sat on the dock and dried out in the sun while Lucky continued to swim (see attached pictures--I will try to get a better "family portrait" to you soon). Today, Penny really seems to have come out of her shell. This evening she decided to play for the first time since she has been here. She walked over to the dog toy basket and got out a stuffed fish. She tossed it in the air to herself and caught it and then stood on it and tried to tear it apart (there wasn't much left to tear apart since Lucky had gone over that toy pretty well already, but she did manage to get some new stuffing out). She and Lucky both got several new toys today and they both seemed very happy with them. She is becoming far more friendly and affectionate with both Amanda and I. I think Amanda has gotten somewhat frustrated with the accidents (although she does not show it to Penny), but I understand they are just a part of an adjustment and retraining process. Because the house is very big, I have gotten an additional crate so Penny can have a safe place in our bedroom at night and also in the family room/kitchen (where we spend the majority of our waking time). I think we are all making great progress. I will keep you updated. --Mac |
