Its official We're foster failures. About one week after formally resigning as a foster parent but still offering to do Home Visits, Evaluations and transports, Jo phones and asks us to go and look at a young owner surrender GSD at Sauk County HS. It’s the day before Christmas, so we think OK we can keep her for a week and not have her cooped up over Christmas. ONLY FOR A WEEK! So we go and these doleful eyes say thank you for coming and getting me. 3 hours later we are all in love. But I'm still strong at that stage as she's a pup - large, not crate, house or leash trained. “No more strong dogs hurting my knees!” I say. “Angel Baby” has been an outside dog sleeping in a garage but tied up most of the time. We change her name to Marlena (pronounced Marlayna). Then we take her for a walk and she's pretty good, then after one accident inside there's no more, then we let her off outside and she sticks like glue, then she plays with the neighbor’s dog beautifully, then after one night she goes into her crate willingly, then she goes for a big walk along the Ice Age Trail and comes back on command, and never goes more than fifty feet away, then she plays with the little girl next door.... Then...... We start to talk about “what if we keep her”...... no no no yes no no yes. A couple of weeks go by as we arrange for her spaying and by this time we Know. After 4 dogs all very lovable (well 3 were really lovable), it’s funny which one gets to you isn't it? I'm quite comfortable that there are two women in Scott's life now. Jo is totally responsible for all this. A cunning plan I think! So Marlena never even got her picture on the website as available…
