Hi Kyra and the gang, Well, it has been a little over a month now that we have gotten Noah. You said your daughter named him that and we noticed he seemed to respond to this name so we kept it. I think his name before that was Sisco but he never seemed to respond to that, and actually I thought it was more meaningful that your daughter should name him. He is adapting well to the household and he and Callie get along for the most part alright. There is a battle for attention sometimes but no aggression. Noah is sly like a fox though and I can understand how he might have gotten out and strayed if given the chance. The dog obedience classes have been extremely helpful in helping us know how much Noah has been socialized . They introduced us to the "Gentle Leader" as a means of taking Noah for walks and getting him to respond to us. At first Joyce thought this was too restrictive for him but as they demonstrated and as we used it ourselves, it really works great! Now Noah is starting to focus more on Joyce when they walk and not pull like he first did. Part of the socialization class is walking him around the store, and so far he has broken only one glass dish with his big bony tail. I found out today that when I come home from work, I should not let him mouth my arm as this is showing his dominance over me as part of his pack. He does seem to go nuts over cats and I am wondering what he is going to do when the turkeys start coming into our backyard. I am sure he will let one of us know they are there. All in all, he is a very affectionate, fun loving sometimes spirited dog who is really trying to fit into OUR pack, and I believe he is succeeding. We have grown to really love and appreciate this German shepherd and all his funny little quirks. He is responsive, he doesn't bark in the house, AND, he is as smart as a whip. It will be a long time before we let him off the leash, but we all are learning to know each other and love each other. Here are a couple pics of Noah in "action". I never had a dog who loved to sleep on his back so much. And so soundly! Dan & Joyce |
