Rommel never made it to Available Dogs.... He was adopted by his foster home!
Rommel’s Happy Ending
January 15, 2008 I have been in my new
home for about a month now, and I am really happy to be gaining some
weight and feeling much better. My new mom is a really good cook. She made
me boiled chicken and rice, and got my tummy working much better. When I
arrived at my new home, I was pretty under weight, weighing only about 65
pounds. You could even see my ribs from quite a distance. Now I weigh
about 75 pounds, and am a good looking boy, even if I do say so myself,
and you can’t see my ribs, even up close! My dad has been playing
with me every day. We play Frisbee, Kong and just run around and generally
roughhouse. Dad says I have to be gentler with the other dogs in my
family, but understands that I don’t mean to be rough, I am just so
excited to have other dogs to play with, I lose track. We keep working on
play manners. I’ll get it soon. I started my obedience classes last
week, and although I have a hard time not barking at the other dogs to
play, I have done pretty well. My dad thinks I am doing well anyway, and
gives me treats and pets and hugs. I can sit, stay, lay down, and am
learning to fetch. I am a little scared of
the cats at my house. Oddly enough, they are not intimidated by me at all,
which is fine, but they are sometimes grumpy with me and have tried to
scratch. Cats are weird. I was not too interested in toys when I came
here, but dad has been teaching me that they are even more fun than
chewing on my sister Liza, the chow. She loves me even though, but the
little rat terrier is really grumpy. I think it is because he is so small.
I am cautious about our horses. I want to chase them, but they are really
big and don’t seem to know how to play. My dad has taught me to respect
the fence so I don’t get hurt and promises that I will get to meet them
up close this spring before riding season. I am really looking forward to
outings with mom, dad and Liza when they go horseback riding. I have my own bed, and
sleep right next to my dad. I also have some toys that I like to play
with, but am still learning about them. Most of the time I like to lie
around and sleep, but as I start to feel better I get more energetic. My
mom has had some trouble with medical issues, so I have tried to comfort
her as best I can. She says that I brighten up her day and that she is
very happy that I am here. All in all, my new family
really seems to love me. Mom hangs out with me during the day, and both
mom and dad are usually home at night, so I am not alone very often which
is just fine with me. Our teenager is really cool. She spends time with me
from time to time (between school, work and boyfriend) which really makes
me happy. Sometimes she even lets me hang out in her room and watch the
gecko, Pyro. It’s almost time to
eat, so I am going to finish this letter. Thank you GSRAW for giving me my
new home. I have a family who truly loves me and I could not be happier
(unless you have some treats handy). I know that I will be okay now.
Please help my fellow rescue dogs. I wish that they could have a happy
ending like mine. Rommel
