Well it took 4 years as a foster parent taking in puppies and lots of seniors but it finally happened, by no choice of my own I can assure you. I am once again a foster failure. I rescued a 10 yr old female stray – a bag of bones, poor thing, on death row. First home: I adopted her out 2 weeks after I had her to a single woman with another dog. Perfect home. Sarah was returned 2 weeks later. She was destructive, food aggressive, clamped down on the other dog and peed in her sleep. Um ok never had that behavior at my house. She returned her. Later I find out Sarah went running down the road after me when I dropped her off. Sarah was very happy to be back at my house. Mind you this dog is not crated during the day nor have I had any issues with her. Perfect girl at my house! Second home: I adopt her out 2 weeks after she was returned to again a single woman with another dog and she worked out of her home. Three hours after she got her home she wants to return her. She said Sarah doesn't have much longer to live and in a lot of pain. She will euthanize her for me if I like. I freaked out called her and said bring my dog back. Nothing is wrong with Sarah. Again she displayed behavior I didn't see. Recently Sarah's behavior finally came to light for me. I took her to a friend’s house with me and she completely shut down and was terrified with fear. I couldn't get her in the house nor catch her. If I opened the car door she was all about tail wags and smiles. Sarah clearly did not want to be adopted out by anyone other than me. Once she knew I wasn't going anywhere she was her happy self. I guess Sarah was always meant to stay with me from day one. She was an unexpected Christmas gift to an already 3 dog home, but it was the best gift I could have gotten this year. She is truly a gift and will forever be loved. |
