Augie and Jake are going ice fishing this weekend.  They really do go everywhere together!  They will 4-wheel it across the lake (Jake built Augie his own customized, secure seat for the 4-wheeler) to our summer trailer.  Though they'll have heat, it isn't THAT warm inside!  Jake assures me the two keep each other warm and not to worry.  I really don't since they've been fishing before both on open water and on the ice.  They are so connected and happy together.  It's like watching re-runs of Lassie!

Dear Jo and Sue:

Augie has been home since April 9 and he truly felt it was his home from the beginning.  We've had nothing but joy with him these past two months even when an occasional behavior warrants a correction.  He learns very quickly and is willing to patiently work on our new requests like he not bolting out the door before us or about knocking us down the basement stairs.  His affection and attention are never ending nor ours to him.

He has a best friend next door, a yellow lab of about 2 years.  They run between the two yards playing "Catch Me If You Can" and a gentle game of tug with a toy.  There's a little competition when it comes to fetching the ball because Augie can't usually out run the lab - well, Augie is a few years older!  However, when it comes to wrestling we can almost hear Augie telling Beau, 'Pinned you.'  It is one of my favorite pastimes to watch the two.

My son and Augie are particularly close and they have many adventures together.  Games at the softball fields, visiting friends and a party or two.  The next outing will be to the lake where my son intends to have a fishing companion.  Augie does enjoy the water so I am confident this too will bond them further.  His favorite comment, which Augie hears daily, 'You're the best dog ever.'  I would agree.

Augie's coat has become shiny and rich.  At some point I will update the site to do him justice.  He loves to be groomed and our arms tire long before his interest wanes.  I believe he really feels good about himself.  His presentation is quite demanding whether on his throne in the house or lounging in the grass.  'I feel good.  Look at me.  I look good too.'

At the time that I learned of your organization and website, I didn't think I was ready to envelope another dog as it had been about two months since I had to put down my friend of 13 years.  Reviewing the many GSD on a daily basis, and often times several times throughout the day, was a great healer.

There are so many' family members' waiting for their homes with those of us lucky enough to receive one.  Augie has brought us comfort and affirmation that we who love dogs absolutely need to have one or more.  My family thanks you.

Mona
