Babe

Here is Babe's Happy Ending story:

Hi,,,,,,,,,,My name is Babe and at age 2 my Mom rescued me from a shelter.  When my Mom lost her 15 yr. old GSD last August, she said “no more dogs”, but after a few months both she, and my two feline sisters, were very lonely and there was an empty spot in their hearts,  a spot that could only be filled by a canine companion.  My Mom joined GSRAW in December of 2001 and immediately became a foster home.  She thought this would be a good way to determine whether or not she wanted to make a permanent commitment, and, at the same time, help a needy GSD with a loving home environment until a permanent home could be found.  My Mom’s foster stayed for about a month, and knowing she was about to leave, my Mom started searching rescues and shelters for a permanent companion.  When she came to visit me, it was love at first sight,,,,,,and the next day when she came back to get me, it was the best New Year’s present either of us could have gotten.

Now, my new job isn’t always easy.  First of all I had to train my two feline sisters.  They kept running away, so I constantly had to chase them around the house.  A few months have passed now, and they’re getting the hang of it.  All they need to do is lay still, and I will gladly lick them all over till they have fashionable spike hairdos.  I don’t mind if they want to drink out of my water dish, but I wish they would keep their feet out of it.  It’s OK though, cause their feet are small and my Mom changes my water several times a day.  I don’t have a lot of time to play with them, cause my job as Mom’s companion keeps me pretty busy.

We go just about everywhere together.  I love riding in the car and I don’t mind sleeping in the back seat while my Mom does her things.  Several times a week we go to the health club,,,,,,,I’m getting to know the people there,,,,,,so while Mom’s working out, I check out the folks who pass through the parking lot.  Lots of them talk to me now.  Usually, after that we need to shop,,,,,,,,,my favorite mall is the one with the pet store.  My Mom has taught me that we must go through the entire store to see what’s on sale before we decide what to buy.  I often need to try out several of the toys and sample a variety of the biscuits before deciding what to take home.  Unlike Mom, who usually returns half of her stuff the next day, my selections are carefully thought out, and Mom is teaching me to carry my bag to the car.  I’ve already learned to pick up my toys and put them in the toy box at night and bring my Kong in from outside when I’m finished playing with it.

I also like going to the office.  Sometimes I have to wait in the car, but usually I get to go in and visit all my human friends there.  They are always so happy to see me and they really appreciate it when I generously lick them and get a little hair on their dark suits.

Then, it’s usually time to go home for dinner.  I want my Mom to think she’s a good cook, so I always eat every bit of my food and then get a tartar biscuit so my teeth stay clean.  Usually in the evenings we take a walk.  All things considered, life is good.  I think my Mom’s a keeper.

BABE  is a happy, healthy, energetic young GSD who gets along with all living things and has a strong desire to please.  She epitomizes the Standard for GSDs in being protective but not aggressive and her keen sense of intelligence allows us to literally carry on conversations.  From the day I met her, I was so taken by the way she cocks her head to one side when I talk to her as if she is listening and understanding every word.  However fate works in miraculous ways,,,,,,,,it was a fortunate day when we found each other, and Babe now has her “forever” home.
