Fritz
Larry contacted us to let us know that Fritz passed away on Monday the 12th (Nov., 2007).  He had to put him down due to a bad heart and other major organs failing.  He was only 6.

Fritz will be missed.

This is my boy Fritz. He is now 16 months old and 95lbs. of joy!

Fritz came to GSRAW from a private shelter in Iowa. I was called to take him because he was so sweet and with the understanding that there might "possibly" be something wrong with him. He had originally been purchased from a breeder but at about 12 weeks was dropped off one night at a petting zoo. The zoo then called the Humane Society who did not want him and gave him to this private shelter who then in turn called me. Fritz survived all of this on his sweet personality and his good looks I believe. As we do with all of our dogs I took him to the vet and the vet said you need to take him to the local vet school, I think he has some skeletal problems. Well...........this beautiful pup has displaysia in his elbows and his hips. In fact he has no hips sockets at all but seemed to get around fairly well. The elbows were quite painful so the vet school did surgery on them. Unfortunately he now has severe advanced arthritis related to his elbow surgery so the option to repair his hips has been taken away. Fritz has a great attitude and I fell in love with him very quickly and I asked him if he would join my family. My other two Shepherds have accepted him and seem to know that he is "special". He has now become GSRAW's "poster boy" and I bring him to many of our meetings with the public because he is so sweet and mellow and loves humans. He is on a variety of natural joint and pain remedies to make his life as "pain free" as possible until the time comes where he can no longer be shielded from the pain.
