Huey

Huey came to our family as a foster child in March after we lost one of our 9 1/2 yr old shepherds to bone cancer.  He was just what we needed!  He is so sweet and just likes to be loved all the time.   He's awesome with the kids and even gets along extremely well with our other shepherd, Lexi.  We can't say enough about how much we all love him so we adopted him in April.  He's a little skinny and we were a little worried about his weight so we took in him to be checked out by our vet.  He had a mild case of worms so we got that all taken care of.  He's still really skinny but we're hoping as he gets older he'll pack on some pounds.  Being that he's not quite 2 yet, we're hoping that it is just his age and his energy level that's keeping him so slim.

We've had female shepherds for a long time and it's interesting to have a male.  He has much stronger instincts to protect and herd.  He is always under my feet and trying to "direct" where I am going.  He barks at everything and everyone until he gets to know who you are.  We finally don't bark at the neighbors as much anymore.

We went on a family vacation to Florida and had a babysitter come in and stay while we were gone.  It went great!  She couldn't stop raving about how cute and sweet he is.   Both dogs slept in bed with her, one on each side.  Good thing our sitter loves dogs too!

We have a nice fenced back yard which Huey is doing a marvelous job keeping all those pesky squirrels and rabbits out of (hehehe).  He bounds out the back door, leaping over the steps with ease.  Being Lexi is 9 1/2 yrs old, she just watches him like he's so stupid.   He loves to play with and chew sticks - the bigger the better of course.  The great news is that Lexi seems to have been rejuvenated somewhat by Huey.  She started picking up sticks too and chasing Huey around the yard on occasion.  It's been a really good adoption for her and our family.

Thanks so much for getting him together with us!  We couldn't have adopted a better dog!
