Dear Gailee, Hello! How are you? Hope all is well with you. I got your email and just snapped up a few digital pictures of Katie-Kaya. We have some others with her playing in the snow with my husband and my daughter. I ordered some copies for you. It will take a few days so in the mean time here are some I snapped up on 3/3/05. She has gained some weight and is doing well! As you can see from one of the pictures we extended our front fence so when she has to go potty outside we just open the door and she is in a whole fenced in yard. It seems she has more room and she can now be loose in the yard with us because more of it is fenced. She still always has a toy with her. She has a whole laundry basket full, but she has gotten better about not knocking it over every minute. Now she just digs through it for the toy she wants at that moment. I just want you to know how grateful we all are to you for all your help with her. Without you I am sure it would have never been possible for her to return to me. I am so glad to have her home and it seems as though she is also glad to be here. At times she sleeps with my daughter next to her bed, but her favorite sleeping place is in the hall by the door or under the kitchen table. She has the run of the house which, now that I turned my duplex into a single family, is pretty large. I still have her cage up, but the truth is since she has been home there has been no need for her to go in it at all. When we have company, if they are adult for the most part she can remain loose, but when we have my friends' children over she is in the hallway with the gate up. I am sure she would be fine, but as I know from my experience in being a mother, children can poke and bug animals and she is not used to being poked or her hair pulled, so for her safety we just take that extra precaution. In the past a small gate would have never held her back, but now she knows it is for a short time and after, for not knocking the gate down and being calm she is rewarded. She gets a lot of car rides taking my daughter to school and picking her up. And for our more long walks we go to Menomonee River Parkway. There are not too many dogs there and it is such a big area that if we see some dogs we just go through the wooded area closer to the water which she loves of course. I think you would agree she looks good. We will continue to send you updated photos and if you want to drop in to visi her just let me know! Sincerely, |

Kaya's story is a real Happy Ending! Kaya was
initially surrendered to a humane society because her owner had gotten a
new job and could not care for her. She was traveling for work -
so Kaya would stay with friends or family and spent a lot of time in a
crate. So her Mom thought it would be best for her to go to a new
family that would give her the love and attention she deserves.
Fast Forward...... Kaya was deeply missed by her family. Recently, her owner got another new job that requires no travel, so she will be in one spot. But they all still missed Kaya immensely. Mom decided to find out where Kaya was. She contacted the humane society, who gave her our number. She was so happy that we still had "Katie" in foster care!! She sent in an application to try to adopt Kaya back into her home. We still had to go through the normal procedure for an adoption - but everything checked out. When going to do the home visit - Kaya's foster Mom took her along. As soon as they turned onto their street, Kaya went nuts in the car! She knew where she was..... There was a tearful reunion for all. So Kaya has been adopted back into her original home. Now that's a Happy Ending!! |
