Koko

ANOTHER UPDATE.....
We are doing great, and Koko is getting quite spoiled. I spent Saturday with two dog loving friends, and after having lunch and seeing a movie they took me to Petsmart and proceeded to fill three shopping bags with toys, treats, and more. And they haven't even met her yet! Each is planning to bring her dog (a beagle and a Jack Russel terrier) for a play date. Meanwhile, we are working on "stay" and "come." After only a week, Koko was able to hold a "stay" for almost 2 minutes. We thought that was rather outstanding (not that we're prejudiced...!). We spent most of the weekend (wasn't it beautiful?) outside going for walks, playing in the yard, and just flopping on the deck. Cali is still the only cat brave enough to interact with Koko. But, nothing surprising there. Bob and Ray are at least venturing out of the basement now. Cali and Koko have created their own strange game. Cali sits on the couch, lures Koko over, and then bats her repeatedly in the head. Koko bounces around the room, then she goes back for more. When we first observed this game, we would scold Cali for hitting Koko. But then, after watching for a while we figured out that they each are enjoying themselves. Weirdos! All this is a long way of saying that we absolutely adore Koko and are awfully happy you placed your ad! I'll send you some photos for posting.

*******************************

Thought you might like an update on how things are going with Bunny! Well, first I should tell you that we've changed her name to Koko in honor of one of my favorite blues singers, Koko Taylor. She's already responding to her new name (what a smart dog). Gene and I are quite in love with Koko already, and would like you to know that no way are you getting her back! We've gotten her lot's of new toys, treats, and a retractable leash. Right now (we will be getting her a "crate") she's been sleeping in our room, and has been no trouble at all. We made her a bed on the floor, which she totally ignores, preferring to sleep at the side or foot of the bed. Koko's had a couple of accidents in the house, but she nicely does so on the linoleum and not the carpet. Am sure once she feels more settled that will happen less. We've had some fun romps through the snow in the yard and go for several walks around the neighborhood every day. Cali the cat has been able to establish that she is the queen of the house. Bob the cat appears to be a bit miffed about the new addition to the family, but has shown his disfavor mostly by spending all his time in the basement. But then, he pretty much has done that since we moved into the house, so no big deal there. And strangely, Ray the cat has since Koko's arrival let Gene pet her for the very first time. It's funny, but it really does seem like Koko has been with us much longer than a couple of days. We can hardly wait to introduce her to our friends and families--and their assorted dogs. In fact, we've already emailed a photo of her to just about everyone we know!
