A Holiday message from Roxie's family: Hi Sue, Just wanted to wish you and all the people from Rescue a very Happy Holiday Season. Roxie is sweeter than ever (but, at times, a bit peculiar). She can hardly spend a minute not knowing where I am, and when I am in the living room (we never go in there) to play my new piano, she's just all messed up! It's getting harder for her to get up and walk. Her back legs kind of twist up. We are going to the vet next week. But, she is eating better than ever, and is "throwing" her ball at us more and more. She has learned that even if she doesn't have to potty, if she stands at the door, or gives us the "look," we will take her out. She is usually good for something, but sometimes it's just to get out there. She still looks forward to our walk every morning, and by 9:30 she is dancing around here until we go. In the cold we only walk far enough for her "big" potty, and then it's back in the house. I take her for a ride in the car every day, too. We want to make her as happy as possible, especially if her back is making her uncomfortable. The Christmas tree is driving her crazy because the love seat isn't where it belongs, and she can't lay by the patio door and watch outside. She has truly become a creature of habit, and this is her home!! The attached picture is from the summer time. Her face has "aged" a bit since we took this, but the look IS Roxie. She is our little doll! She is getting a 2005 dog license today. We will also buy a new collar to put it on. She has to be pretty for Christmas, too. Have a wonderful Holiday. We always pray for all the dogs (and other animals). We hope they all find safe, warm, loving homes. Thanks, again, for Roxie. Peggy |

A letter from Roxie's new Mom.... Hi Sue, I can't believe it's
just a week since we met Roxie. It
seems like we've known her forever. Perhaps
it's because we think she really is the "person" we were looking
for since the day Brinks was gone. She did OK while I
worked yesterday. As it
happened, our daughter was off from work and stopped in to play with her. When I came home for lunch, they had been watching TV
together. Steph said that
Roxie perked up and started wagging her tail when she heard the garage
door open. Of course, she
came and got a hug and love when I came through the door, as if she knew
me her whole life. What a
sweet girl. This morning Roxie is
going to get "all prettied up" at the groomer. I hope she enjoys it. I
think she will feel better after it's done.
We all feel better after a shower, why wouldn't she?
She will come home to some of our friends from our club, as it's my
turn to have the meeting (our Bavaian Club is getting a new flag over July
4th weekend. We get it
blessed at church. Clubs are
coming from as far away as Bavaria to help us in this celebration.
Anyway, Hansi and I are on the Church service committee.
We are "down to the wire.").
I am not worried about her. One
woman has to bring her 9 year old boys, and I told her that Roxie might
not be ready for them quite yet. She
said we'd all work it out. That's
kind of why I scheduled the groomer for this morning. Roxie is going to the
vet (one that Debbie Block recommended) on Monday afternoon.
We want someone to look her over, and check out her ears.
We also want to have a vet to get to know her and us, especially if
there was an emergency or something. As for adopting an
older dog? She is perfect for
us. She and Hansi like to
sleep in, and even if I get up first in the morning, she stays upstairs
with him until he comes down. We
left all the other bedroom and bathroom doors open last night - Roxie is
free to roam anywhere in the house except the living and dining room.
She stayed right in our room as far as I know.
She loves to ride in the car, and we took her for a ride last night
and got some ice cream (which she likes, so I will get her some
"Frosty Paws"). She
can entertain herself when she isn't quite ready to sleep, after we have
played with her. She
sometimes just comes over for a love - always to each of us - and then
goes back to her toys on her little bed.
Of course, if it looks like we are ready for more play, she comes -
she starts by "throwing" a ball.
Then, like a baby, she suddenly has to sleep - and sleep she does!
Nothing seems to bother her. But,
she will get up if she hears the fridge door open (there are hot dogs and
ham in there), or if she thinks there's a chance to go outside, or ride in
the car. Steph and her
husband (who had not met Roxie yet) came over Thursday night and woke her
from a dead sleep. She walked
right up to Ron (slowly) and greeted him.
Of course, Ron, being a dog lover, fell in love with her
immediately and she was friendly. They
played very well together. I
think Roxie really just likes people.
She has a great personality, and it is beginning to come out. What more can I say?
I think that we will all be very happy together.
I hope it's for a long time. As
I will explain later, the timing in our social life for getting Roxie is
not so good for us right now (with this club thing and all), but I just
knew she was our "person."
It would have made me crazy to know she was "out there"
and couldn't be ours. I
haven't been this happy in a very long time.
I hope Roxie feels the same way.
We truely are attached to her already. She still has some
apprehension about coming from the foyer to the kitchen past the powder
room - I can't imagine what the problem is.
But, she has courage and comes into the kitchen and runs to the
family room and onto her bed (I think it's become her security).
Then she's fine. We just keep on loving and encouraging her - there is
absolutely nothing there that can hurt her.
The only thing that is near the spot that upsets her is around the
corner, and that is the door to the basement.
We have opened it for her. She has no interest in going down those
scary steps. We won't push
the issue. It doesn't matter
if she ever goes down there or not (a tornado warning might get us upset,
then we will carry her down). Have to get the house
picked up before the meeting and run to the store to get some snacks.
I have neglected the house since Roxie is here - things are a bit
messy and dusty. There are
also dog toys all over (like it used to be) the place.
It's nice to have a dog in the house again!! I will let you know
how the groomer and vet go, and how she is with company. We are taking her to Steph's house tonight to visit.
Debbie and John Block will be there - they live a mile or two away
from Steph. They can't wait
to meet our special girl, either. Thanks again for
letting us have her. It's
time to feed Roxie. Peggy |
