Hi Ann: Zeus has been with us for about 5 months now. He weighs in now at a healthy 118# and his epilepsy seems to be under control. It took a little while, but we seem to have found the correct combination of medications. He gets his tablets at 6am and 6pm and he gets his potassium bromide at noon. Zeus has had only 1 seizure in the last 2 months. We have also put him on a prescription diet because his skin is so dry. That, combined with the cream cheese that he gets his medication in, seems to be helping. So for now the only attacks that he gets are of the sillies. Zeus doesn't like the heat at all! He prefers to sack out in the kitchen near one of the fans in the air conditioning. Can't really say that I blame him. Zeus doesn't pace any more and he has gotten used to being left when I have to go to work. However, when I am home, if I go out, he is right there with me. He has become my shadow. The only time he isn't near me is if he is napping in the kitchen. If Zeus is asleep when I come home, once he wakes up, he will search the house until he finds me. He is never alone for more than about 2 1/2 hours at a time. My dad (Grandpa to him) comes up about 9:30am every day and Zeus is happy to be outside watching (and helping) Grandpa with whatever he is doing in the barn. One time he even brought Grandpa his gloves. Holly, Emily, Sam and Marti are Zeus's kitty companions in the house. Holly is the boss and let him know it early on. The others really don't care. He allows them to drink out of his water bowl and even eat his dog food. The strangest thing is that we have never heard him bark. In 5 months - not a sound, not even a growl. He is extremely patient and nothing seems to bother him. The only noise he has ever made is when he yawns. He has several favorite toys - a purple squeaky ball (which sounds the best >at 5am on Sunday mornings), a Kong and a tuggie toy made from the same material as the hose the fire departments use. When he gets into a game of tuggie, I do have to make sure that all he grabs with those teeth of his is his toy. Well, I better close. I have chores to do before heading off to work. I want to thank you for allowing us to adopt Zeus. |
