Surrender Information
German Shepherd Rescue Alliance of Wisconsin
reserves its limited foster home space for dogs that are in shelters or
humane societies and on "death row". We CANNOT take owner
surrender dogs into foster care. If you are able to keep your dog
in your home, we can consider putting your dog on our website and trying
to help you place your pet. The following rules will determine if
we can assist you in re-homing your German shepherd dog:
- We charge a non-refundable fee of $25 to
list your dog with GSRAW.
- We require that a member of our rescue meets
your family and the dog and visits
your home to see the environment in which the dog now lives. We will assess
the character and temperament of your dog to determine if it meets
the standards of the rescue. You must sign a Surrender
Agreement, relinquishing all rights and ownership of your dog to
GSRAW and the adopter upon physical surrender. Please
understand that distance can be a big factor in determining whether
or not we can list your dog. We are based in Madison,
Wisconsin. We do have members that live in other areas, but we
must limit how far we can travel.
- Before we can list your dog on our
website, your dog must be up to date on rabies and distemper
vaccinations. The dog must have been tested negative for
heartworm and have been on monthly heartworm preventative since the
last test. The dog must be altered (spayed or neutered).
- If you place the dog yourself at any time
after we have posted the information on our website, you must notify GSRAW
immediately, so that the dog can be removed from our website.
- GSRAW CANNOT place
dogs that have a bite record.
You MUST divulge ANY aggression issues you have had with your dog to
GSRAW.
What will GSRAW do in helping to place your dog?
- We will receive and review applications.
To approve an applicant, our adoption specialists call personal and
vet references. They talk to and counsel the potential
adopters about what they are looking for in a new family member.
We perform a home visit to meet the family, other pets and to make
sure that the dog will be in a good, safe, loving home.
- After being approved, an adoption specialist
will contact you to set up a meeting with your family and dog and
the potential adopters.
- You will have the final say on whether this
is the best home for your dog.
- GSRAW will charge the adopter our standard
adoption fee for the age of your dog. This fee goes directly
toward the care of the dogs in rescue.
